Empire Magnetics
An Engineer's Resource
For selecting and applying motors in harsh environments
Empire in Action: Deep Space
Anteon engineers faced a problem: They needed to rotate a satellite in a test chamber to replicate the vacuum and cold of deep space. Vacuum level of 10-9 Torr, temperature -160 C. They also needed to position the satellite to .05 degree or better. Empire Magnetics Inc, designed and built the turntable assembly. Using a cryogenic and vacuum rated motor and a resolver, with a magnetic drive, we were able to achieve absolute position with a resolution of .04394… degrees. The system worked as designed.
Empire in Action: US Navy
Bechtel, on behalf of the US Navy, required a motor assembly that was radiation hardened, submersible and equipped for remote a handling in a toxic environment.
Empire Magnetics Inc, designed and built this assembly.
This system was extensively tested before it was assigned NSN 7hh 6105-01-580-1517 x3.
Empire in Action: Extreme Temperatures
DST required motor assemblies that would operate valve assemblies with exceptionally high temperatures:
Empire Magnetics Inc. designed special couplings to provide thermal isolation between the valves and the motors.

Learn About Vacuum Rated Motor Selection & Installation
Operating a motor in a vacuum is often perceived as a design challenge. Among engineers, the problems -- outgassing, contamination and temperature -- are well known. What is less well known is that there are now well-developed solutions to each of these problems.
